A presentation of our Concert ”Choir and Swingjazz” by Odin’s Ravner Male Voice Choir and Siste Indre jazz quartet in Grønland Church Oslo, 10th. March 2010, at 19:30.
“Odin’s Ravner” Male Voice Choir was established 16-17 years ago and is based in Oslo, although many members travel quite long distances to sing with this choir. So what is it that’s special with this choir?
Today Male Voice Choirs are more seldom than in the past. Maybe this is due to a rather bygone national chauvinistic attitude towards Male Choirs, and that the material they used is seen as somewhat old-fashioned. Revitalising this tradition doesn’t seem to have been without problems, but this is exactly the challenge we think Odin’s Ravner are well on the way to solving. We try to present a mixture of both newer, original arrangements and material, as well as the traditional, fun to sing and entertaining for a wider audience to listen to. Familiar and well loved songs in many cases, but with an original flavour!
Svein A Lindemark who has been our musical leader and Conductor these past 11 years is able to contribute wide musical experience both as musician and arranger. Consequently our repertoire contains mostly original arrangements.
Our chosen song material has quality and an intrinsic value, and primarily can be divided into two catagories: firstly more popular based, swingy and lively material, contra secondly the beautiful, maybe more traditionai, that puts a tear in the corner of your eye!
The forthcoming Concert 10th. March is the first Concert Odin’s Ravner have arranged for themselves. The intention is of course an opportunity to sing for a larger audience in a larger arena with good acoustics, and for this we chose Grønland Church in Oslo. Here we can present music from both the previously mentioned catagories. With our thoughts primarily on the first choice of songs, entertainment with tempo and rythme, we’re proud and happy to have with us the professional jazz group “Siste Indre”. Well known musicians, Arild Berger on piano, Jan Thoresen on sax and clarinet, Svein Bristå bass, and Erik Vego on drums.
In addition to “Siste Indre” accompanying our singing, they’ll be playing some of there own typical swing-jazz music from their repertoir. We can look forward to a quartet that has long been respected on the jazz scene for their elegant, humoristic and energetic playing. We can therefore wish all music enthusiasts, welcome to a Concert, and evenings music with a difference!
The venue is, Grønland Church, Wednesday 10th March at 7.30 pm.
